Aurons is a small village dating from the 9th
century. It goes back to the prehistoric times since axes, arrows and flints have been found there. The village spirals around a medieval mound that is surmounted by the ruins of a Carolingian castle. The best place to view this site is from a platform surrounding the statue of Notre-Dame of Aurons. Beneath the platform you will find troglodyte rooms that are used for artisan exhibits. In the central room stands the largest and the most beautiful plane tree in the departement. the fountains, the magnificent church and his chapel, the charming pedestrian streets are all reminders of the village's feudal castle and past . |
